#SelfCareSunday | What a long week! As a content creator, I’ve found it difficult to create. Feeling drained, frustrated + mad as hell during such tumultuous times has been an everyday mood since the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police. Not only do Black people have to worry about the threat of COVID-19 potentially taking our lives but law enforcement, too.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’ve enjoyed seeing posts from mutuals helping to bring awareness to these injustices that we as black people face. One thing I don’t see many people discussing is how we should take care of ourselves during this time. Look no further. For each of our five senses I’ve added a self-care tip for you to love on yourself a little extra during this hectic time:⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Sight: Visually consume things that make you happy. To me that looks like viewing art pieces by James Kerry Marshall, watching Poetic Justice and reading some poems by Maya Angelou. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Smell: Scent is one of the most powerful senses. Take a eucalyptus shower, buy a gardenia for your crib or even light your favorite candle/incense. You know me, I love lavender everythang. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Hear: Doesn’t matter if you’re pretending you’re in a Baptist church choir during the Fred Hammond + Kirk Franklin #Verzuz or twerking to Meg Thee Stallion. Listen to things you love! I promise it’ll put you in a better mood.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Touch: For me, this includes all things fuzzy: socks, slippers and blankets. Wear things that feel soft on your skin, pet your nearest furry friend and when all else fails, hold one of your favorite comforting objects. Some of us all have that one stuffed animal we can’t let go! I know I do... 🐻⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Taste: You know the excitement of getting ready to eat your favorite dish? Provide yourself with that feeling. Indulge in your favorite comfort foods. For me, that’s all things soul food. The crispier the chicken wing, the closer I feel to God.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Rest in Peace to George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade and the thousands of others who have yet to receive justice. ⁣⁣ ⁣
Listen.. the only thing better than a mild Jamaican beef patty is a spicy one! 🇯🇲🙌🏽🔥⁣ ⁣ Boswell’s Jamaican Grill has some of my favorite Jamaican eats in NOLA. As you can see, I’m a fan of their authentic drinks too. Especially dat @tingjamaica. 😉

Who knew a simple kitchen gadget could be so much fun? 😁

Takeout sushi can be very hit or miss for me, but I ordered this roll via @postmates last night and I was pretty impressed with the quality. ⁣ ⁣ P.S. Can you tell from my page that I love crawfish? Crawdaddies are really bae, y’all. 😩🥰🦞

Nashville Hot Chicken sandwiches from @theatomicburger were on the menu and I even snagged a blonde brewski from @saintarnoldbrewing. ⁣⁣(get into the @southerncomfort swag they gave out in the background)⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ A special shoutout to all the participating businesses for serving the community during this difficult time. If anything can raise our spirits, it’s a nice bite and a chilled beer. 🍽🍺
